Tips for stress relieving

If you are alone...

Tip 1:
Apply pressure on head
A head massage is known to instantly relieve a person from stress and provide complete relaxation.

Tip 2:
Rub/Massage your tummy
Consider stress as a possible cause of stomach pain or cramps.

Tip 3:
Move your muscles - anywhere
Muscle relaxation

Tip 4:
Retail therapy!
Shopping as a way of boosting one's mood.

Tip 5:
Eat!
Think comfort food.
Think daily scoop.

Tip 6:
If all else fails, SLEEP.
Lack of sleep has got to be one of the number one reasons that people get stressed. So get more quality rest.

If you are with a friend...

Tip 7:
Chit-Chat
Friends and family are there to help, and getting a few words of support or guidance can make a world of difference. Ranting could also help relieve stress.

Tip 8:
Play scissors-paper-stone with manikin, torpedo tube and fins
(No explanation, it's just fun)

Tip 9:
Jump by the pool
It works up your blood circulation and helps to destress and energise oneself.

Tip 10:
Eat with a friend
By eating with a friend, you achieve 2 goals. See tip 5 and 7.

Tip 11:
If tip 5 fails, try 'marvelous cream'.

Tip 12:
If tip 6 fails, try sleeping by the pool. It works.

Lastly... If you are with 2 or more persons....

Tip 13: Laugh
Makes shapes with your hair when you shower.
Making a fool out of oneself can help in destressing too, through laughing.
Allow yourself to experience the feel good feelings.

Jiayou for the exams!

It'll be over soon. :)

jellyfish...

In response to the current craze and paranoia over jellyfish during training, here is a short post. This is the effect of a sting froma marine creature, namely the box jellyfish. Fortunately for this girl, she survived. Read more here.

Sand dollars :)

This is so random.

Remember the amount of sand dollars we found on the beaches of Darwin? (Casuarina beach)... Well, I used to wonder what they were and why they were called sand dollars... Did a google search after getting very sian of studying.

"Sand-dollar is a name used for many species of flattened, burrowing sea urchins belonging to the order Clypeasteroida. All members of Clypeasteroida have a rigid skeleton known as a test. This is the typical fossil found washed up on beaches.

The living animals have a skin of motile spines covering the test. Movement is accomplished by the coordinated action of the spines. Like other sea urchins, sand dollars have five paired rows of pores. The pores are arranged in a petal-like pattern. These pores are perforations in the endoskeleton through which the podia, used in gas exchange, project from the body.

The name sand dollar comes from the shape and color of the test after it washes up on the beach. At that point the test is usually missing its velvety covering of minute spines and is often bleached white by the sunlight. In many species the beachworn test is quite similar in shape and size to a large coin, and the whiteness makes it resemble a large silver coin, for example the old Spanish Dollar coin, or the American Dollar coin that are between 38 and 40mm in diameter."

Here's a video of a sand dollar when it is alive...

BANG BANG!! - What a Shock…. What a JOY -- That our teamNUS Lifesaving Family

Yesterday night training was a great shock with great joy……

The attendance hit pass 28 pax, never experience conducting land trainings for soooo many of you all…but to me it never full house, the more the merrier.
(Some says: we need to get more cords and create more stations --my reply --good ideas!!!)

With 10 more days to go for you all to deal with monster call EXAM, amazingly, you people still find time to come down for trainings….really appreciate your efforts.

With the fruitful guidance from the hardworking old birds and seniors, the new birds blend in easily with joy and laughter.
Last trainings, we hear BIG man groans, yesterday nite, we hear and saw some silly men banging cymbals whilst doing the stretch cords….

Remember, trainings are mainly to ‘de-stress’ and not stress up.
Trainings is always fun and enjoyable, especially when with you have your peers with you.

Like the saying goes…
A Successful Team is a Group of Many Hands but of One Mind.
Coming Together is just the Beginning, Staying Together is Progress, and Working Together is Success.

However, study still comes first, that why you are here….
So, study hard for your exam, clear your papers and we will have more fun times together.

For those going to Ah Mei land, do remember to get some nice cute toy/goodies for this group of nice, wonderful people, those miss this trip, Ok to drool but do look forward to next year when we go down to the big vast land where their original men walk bare footed.

I have keyed in your latest trainings timing in your log book, need the help of some old birds to forward the mail to the new BM and LS..

What a great joy to have you people around!!!

Thanks
Sim

Birth of a new batch of certified lifeguards

Congratulations to our BM graduates! :)

*Act fierce*

Time flies... It feels as if I had only taken my BM test a few weeks ago... :p

Anyhoodles, congratulations and thank you to all who have gone through the 2 semesters of courses with us! We hope that you will be able to take away the skills and knowledge learnt throughout the 2 semesters and continue your seeking spirit and passion for lifesaving. :) Not forgetting, the friendships and bonds forged among your fellow comrades. :)

Many opportunities await you after passing your BM. Yupp, it doesn't end here! :)

You will be able to...
>> join our Bronze Cross course (open water rescue - usually held by ULC once a year),
>> serve as a lifeguard in our local community and in Commonwealth countries (lifeguard positions for sporting events are usually posted on our blog),
>> contribute by being elected to be in the 29th ULC Management Committee next semester, and
>> train competitively in lifesaving to represent NUS in local and overseas competitions. :)
>> etc...

To those who did not pass the test last night, please do not give up, and continue to train hard! :)

To the LS123 batch :) The BM course will commence in the new semester (Aug/Sep), so do keep yourself posted on our blog/official website for more details! :)

On a side note, it is worth taking that few minutes once in awhile to remind ourselves of what the ULC mission is/are...

ULC Mission
= OUR mission

1. To promote the knowledge of Lifesaving and Resuscitation skills in undergraduates and staff of NUS.
2. To foster goodwill and friendship among undergraduates of different faculties through a common activity - Lifesaving ‘Unity through Diversity’.
3. To dispel the misconception that a lifeguard must be a Male and an excellent swimmer.
4. To instill the spirit of dynamism, resilience and ruggedness in our members who strive to excel in the academic, sporting and social arenas of their lives.
5. To encourage the 5 Cs: Commitment, Courage, Confidence, Care & Concern, and Contribution.

Cheers :) & all the best for the upcoming examinations! :)
