Invi 2010 Special Tribute

Sorry for being so slow (it comes with the aging process) ...

I like to say special thanks to the full-time SK party - Ian, JK, Tracy & Barbarella.
They were not involved in the competition but were involved in more races than any of the competitors;
They didn't contribute to the medals or titles but their contributions were just as important as the competitors for the success of the event.

Of course I cannot end without saying a big thank you also to the other part-time SK party cum competitors. Your efforts were definitely appreciated and vital to the success of NUS successfully hosting the event. Thanks to NT, TYR, NH, TWS, NWJ ... (I know I missed out several, it's unintentional, just another problem that comes with the aging process ...)

Kudos also to the team who were behind the planning and organizing of the event - u guys are the unsung heroes.

Thanks to the whole team too who helped in the set-up and the pack-up.

I have said it before, others can win titles and medals like we can, but when it comes to running such an event seamlessly like clockwork, with great teamwork and spirit, I am not shy to say that we are in a class of our own! :)

Team & SK Party Manager,
Melvin

Yo! - Another Mission Accomplished for 2010

Dear All Wonderful Lifesaving people,

We had done another wonderful, meaningful mission for Lifesaving in Singapore.

Last Saturday, 19 June 2010 - 11th NUS Invitational Lifesaving Championships at our Holy Water saw many new champions emerged, they are young and new which is good for Lifesaving Sports in Singapore.

Planning was done months ahead with hard work by Vice - Chairpersons NT & TYR and with the help from many, and also the tedious setup on Friday, right from morning till 11pm, with the testing of equipment and the running of the events order.

On Saturday morning, the girls were ready for the registration and the others doing the final setup and everything go right on schedule until the end at 6.30pm and follow by the tedious clearing and packing up.

It was excellent teamwork that make this event a very successful one, and most important is that everyone enjoy doing it, never give up even some harsh moment by your silly seniors and peers when some are dunk into the ice cold 'tub'.

You all know that your seniors and peers mean well, even they act 'harsh', just take it positively, everything will go well and is always wonderful.

Good job by our newbie, FS, EL, SY, JT, KCL, TWQ, LQH who have the first taste of Lifesaving competition and SKPing and the feel of what NUS Lifesaving team work is about.

WELL DONE my NUS Lifesaving team, just do not know how to do without you all.

Thanks to all our NUS Lifesaving people, HSJ, NT, TYR, MT, TLC, LSG, BK, TGW, NPY, PKR, GS, IC, TJK, EW, NN, CJM, PY, TWQ, NH, TWS, JP, LYW, BW, LWR, EL, CS, FS, KJS, PYJ, WFJ, CKM, NAT, KCL, SY, SC, LQH, JT....................for all the SKPing and admin stuff.

Judging section --Thanks to our hardworking volunteer friends from ACJC, who are always with us for our meets as timekeepers and helpers, Edward for leading them as Chief Timekeeper, Charles Ng and Juan Meng as Chief Sectional Judges with George Lee, Kang Rui and Michael Chua; Gary as Chief Placing Judge and Lii Chong as Chief Referee.

Thanks to Amy, Daniel and Dominic for coming all the way from Darwin to join us, also thank to Tony for sending them here.

Well, pack your bag and we are going on a kite call Jetstar to Ah Mei land, this weekend.
High Mountains are Green and Creek Water are Blue....

Those who want to join us for lunch, please be at T1 canteen at 12nn as we will be there by 11.30am.... no Popeye Chicken--scared of deep fried food already!

Another info,
Our RHB' s mother is 'pregnant' since last year and is expecting a 'twins', likely to deliver by this July.
You all know what I mean.

See Ya.

11th NUS Invitationals

A short note. [Well might not be that short]

Firstly thanks to all for volunteering/sai kang-ing/swimming/participating in the NUS Invitationals! Was very nicely done, and I enjoyed the day's proceedings. Got to say today I see everyone really working hard to ensure the smooth running of the events.

Now down to the other stuff, unfortunately I wanted to talk to all of you but had the misfortune of misplacing my phone.

Competition day is a day of significance. Personal bests are formed, winners are crowned and competitors face potential disqualifications and disappointments. I always enjoy the thrill of just competing, as we all get adrenaline rushes and more than often we set our personal bests. After each race, you would have a sense of achievement, yet at the same time just think - "Shit! I should have done xxx and save 0.xx secs and go even faster!" and the next opportunity won't come so soon. So the next time you get a chance like that, treasure it cause they are few and far between!

Being an athlete is, as I said before, a mix of both mental and physical ability. Today was a test of your mental ability, how well you respond to pressure, to the performance of the competitor next to you, to your relative speed in each final. Take this chance, learn from it. Don't ever repeat the same mistakes that you have done, and you would have learnt something from today.

Lastly I would like to congratulate those who have obtained new personal bests! You have done YOURSELF proud, and I would personally like everyone to keep trying to better that time you got. Apply it not only to lifesaving, but life in general as well.

Cheers and great job to all!
Weiqing.

Pre-Invitationals

We're just 2 days away from the NUS Lifesaving Invitationals... What has everyone been up to besides training??

Cheelin's thoughts:
*Hmm.. I also dunno leh.. Let me go explore and find out......!*

*What is this? Why are you burning the ropes that we just bought?!?!!*

Tiger Hong: "Aiyo.. If you never burn the ends of the rope and put tape, it will fray after using it a few times. You think rope throw rope so easy, just buy then come in the length and requirements you want ah? Must measure, must cut, must burn, must tape, must burn. Got a lot of kung-fu one okay!"

Nick: "Haha aiyah shuddup la tiger hong, you see the tape come out already, must fix again :p"

*Waaah! Look at the amount of goodies we have for this year's Invi! I wonder where they came from?*

*Some of our goodies were collected at the warehouse at somewhere in Jurong!*

*Oh! Now I remember, I was there helping too! All these goodies came from our various sponsors like Mentholatum and Sunplay!*

*Wow the girls are so efficient!!*

*So are the guys! Look at how serious Nick and Yinren are, discussing anything they have missed out during this planning and prepping process!*

*Today.. I also helped to carry many heavy heavy items (so manly right??!), and also did some tasks that requires delicate skills and patience, like laminating and cutting!

Stanley: "Time for some goreng pisang after all the hard work! It will make you STRONGGG!"

Stanley: "So strong that you could strangle the manikin!"

*All the manikins lining up to get their body check-up*

Stanley: "All of you need some fixing!"

Nick touches up the lips...

Pretty smile!

*See? Now they all look like ME!!!*

*Then we played a game "Spot the difference"!*

*Hmm.. but they all look the same leh....*

Oh wells anyways, it's been fun preparing for Invitationals... cos many friendships and bonds were created during this process....

For example, Wenrong made a best friend, Manikin #9

Stanley also managed to get the numbers of two hot babes.
Look how happy he is! :p

Nick: "YAY! Can't you see how excited I am? Cya all on Saturday! Peace out, xoxo!"

We're all in this together

This is a happy song, it can really perk one up :) (even though it's HSM and some might think it's childish!)

Everyone is special in their own way

We make each other strong

We're not the same

We're different in a good way

Together's where we belong :)

Happy Birthday Chee Lin!

Since he didn't come on wed, we celebrated Chee Lin's birthday amid the World Cup fever at vari nice/variance/whatever. We got him a really awesome cake. Just look at it. Awesome.

He really LOVES his cake!

And because it was done at a coffee shop, we didn't really have the proper utensils to distribute the cake. But thanks to Mr Sim's improvisation, the cardboard box of the cake served as a backup plate!
And upon closer inspection, we realised the cake was actually nothing more than a few thin layers of cake itself, and the rest... gao gao thick pink cream. (Reminds me of shaving cream or something from Gatsby)
Nevertheless, we did enjoy the cake and the mini celebration!

Milo Peng

It's been a hard day at training.

Your arms are aching. That 4 x 200m frontcrawl set at the end of everything just killed you.

Your legs are about to cramp up. The manikin carry set earlier on with those Sebak's just tekan'd your legs - if that's what you can call them now.

You feel faint and light-headed. The anaerobic sets totally sucked the wind (and life) out of you. Everything is spinning now. You can still hear Mr Sim's whistle... somehow.

But despite all this, you can only think of one thing. The ultimate reviver. The One. The Only.

Milo Peng.

Ice cold chocolately goodness. S$1.20 of pure indulgence. Feel it go down your throat and savour the moment. Nothing comes close to this.

Join the revolution on Facebook: I like Milo Peng

Sports camp ULC demo

* A shout out to those who are not going to Taiwan! *

The Sports Camp committee is inviting us to do a demo with the rescue boards during Sports Camp on their 'Beach Day' at Sentosa - July 1st, Thursday.

I need help from anyone who is available on that day, as majority of us would be away in Taiwan from June 26-July 5. It will be a short 30 minute demo slot some time between 9am-4.30pm.

Please let me know by this Monday evening (7th June) if you are able to help out alright? We would need at least 2 persons who are confident in doing this demonstration.

As of now I cannot think of anyone, cos' there are some who are not going to Taiwan but are working. :/

Do let me know! Thank you so much. :)
