Gratitude

Dear everyone,

I got quite emotional last night when I gave that last minute "Thank you" speech, and did not get a chance to thank the people I wanted to show appreciation for properly. So here goes...

Thank you Mr Sim, for your devotion to ULC, and for putting in your everything over the past few decades in promoting lifesaving as a skill and a sport. I am inspired by your dedication and passion for lifesaving, and am honoured to have been able to serve ULC for the past year. As seen in the video and photographs, ULC has grown tremendously in terms of not only membership, but also in terms of the opportunities that we are able to enjoy and benefit from.

Having said that, I would like to thank you for always creating opportunities for our team to be able to have some form of overseas exposure, especially to Darwin for the Arafura Games last year amidst all the H1N1 drama. I remember it being the last day of my exam and receiving a text message after my paper saying that the office has finally given us the green light, just 1 day before the trip! Plenty of emails were sent out for arrangements to be re-made and before we knew it, we were on our flight to Darwin. :) It was such an enriching experience even as a Volunteer/Official, not to mention for those competing. The Taiwan trip this year was also incredibly memorable not only because of the exhilarating and educational activities that we took part in (swift water rescue course, abseiling, whitewater rafting, competitions, exchanges, beer drinking, and re-connecting with the chinese language for some of us), but also because of the people who were there. Each time I watch the video made by PYJ, I just can't help but feel excited for the next batch of juniors who will be heading there in 2 years time. All these precious moments will forever be engraved on my mind.

To all the seniors and alumni - if not for you all, we would not have been able to enjoy these opportunities. Without your support and participation, activities planned by ULC would not have been so successful. Without your guidance and advice, some of us might still be stuck in a rut. Thank you for your dedication and genuine hope for us to grow. Thank you for your constant guidance to us juniors. All of you have my utmost respect. :)

To: Yinren aka Baby Milo aka the Friendly giant
I want to thank you in particular (Cheryl sorry pls don't be jealous :p). Thank you for always patiently guiding and answering all my questions be it to do with the administrative work for ULC, or Splashdown, etc. You have been the hardest worker I have seen and I would like to say a big thank you to you on behalf of ULC for all that you have done for the club. :)

To: Melvin and Puay Yong
I would like to thank these 2 seniors in particular for guiding me. Melvin, you would always stay back til SUPER late after every training to help me with my rope throw event and never gave up on me. Everytime you start teaching someone, you will do so in a step-by-step manner and would follow through all the way without giving up no matter how cui a person could be. I am really very touched and I feel so blessed to have a senior like you. I will never forget Module "Rope Throw 101" and everything that you have taught me. :) Thank you Melvin.

Puay Yong, "一支小雨伞....." :) Thank you for believing in me, for encouraging me, for helping me with my finning and rope-throw events, and guiding me whenever I lost direction. I remember everytime I doubted myself, you would always say this to me - "don't worry too much! you can do it one! okay? you can do it one." *pat pat my shoulder* :) Thank you for everything Zhu-wu-ba sis. :)

Special mention also to seniors like Fujie who helped me/is helping me for super lifesaver and ironwoman events. Teaching me the techniques involved and pushing me whenever it gets tiring. Tiger Hong, for doing extra trainings at beach with Cheryl, Lynn and I, and teaching me what ever you know. Reminding me to always have confidence in myself, and being my HTHT friend since before NZ. I was very excited when we decided to run Splashdown'10 together, and I'm looking forward to Saturday! :) Weisin, thank you for encouraging me to join the team trainings after I passed my BM. I would not have joined if not for you, due to unfamiliarity towards competitive lifesaving... but because of your warm embrace to new-comers like myself, Cheryl, Yawen and Lynn, we were able to slowly integrate ourselves into Mr Sim's trainings, and eventually, participate in the annual competitions. Thank you for caring for me all these while.

To my lovely Girls in the Girls Team (2009-2010) :)
Cheryl, Crystal, Eliz, Esther, Fiona, Grace, Khoonie, Kiatju, Lynn, Nicky, Nicole, Puay Yong, Wenrong, Xiyun, and Yawen (always overseas during competition haha). Words can't describe how blessed I feel to have known each and everyone of you. All of you have at least taught me 1 lesson in life, or impacted me in a way or another. Thank you for everything. I LOVE YOU ALL! :)

To my Splashdown committee:
Tiger, Cheryl, Wenfeng, Seb Lim, Zhao Heng, Barbs, Cheelin, Weiqing, Wenrong and Shuhui - Each and everyone of you have worked REALLY hard for this Saturday's event. When Tiger and I put this team of people together, we had a vision to make this event a great one, where our participants can get the best out of. Thank you for all your hard work over the past 7 months, and let's have fun on Saturday! :)

To my 28th Management committee:
Shengjie, Cheryl, Yawen, Lynn, Wenfeng, Seb Lim, Chris Thio and Zach - I have sent you all an email expressing my appreciation towards all of you. Thank you for standing by SJ and I over the past year and putting in the effort to contribute as much as you can to ULC, be it through doing behind-the-scenes tasks like working on ULC articles or helping out at Publicity booths. :) Thank you so much for your hard work. :) It has been really really great working with all of you. :)

To the incoming 29th Management committee:
Congratulations to Cheelin, Barberella, Wenrong, Jiayue, Vivian, Fitzkhoon, Qixuan, Kiatju, Tracy, Amri, Chris Teng and Fujie! :) A good team is one that consists of a group of individuals who can bring out the best in one another despite what ever differences. One similarity I believe all of you have is that you are all passionate and capable, which is why you have been elected. The outgoing committee would like to wish you all the best, and we hope that you will bring ULC to greater heights while working hand in hand as a team. :)

This is the video that was shown on last night's AGM. Thank you Mr Sim and to all alumni members who specially came down after work to grace our AGM. :) I hope to see all of you again soon. :D It was so nice meeting you all. Likewise to the LS and BM batch, I hope you had fun last night and got to know ULC a little better. Welcome to the ULC Family and I hope that you all will have the time of your life meeting new friends here while learning something new every training.

How we have grown :)
