For those who still doubt that i didnt shave for the charity, this is the proof! For those who dont know, this event is organised by Children Cancer Foundation, in a bid to raise awareness for childhood cancer, show support to them by telling them they are not alone in fighting the illness and raise funds for them.
You asked, " Why shave?", "Got use meh?" Hair loss is a side effect cause by the treatments like chemotherapy that they go through, and every hair loss represent their fight against the dreadful illness. We can never experience what they are going through, the pain, the embarassment, the solitary in the fight so we hope by shaving our hair, we can do our little part and lend them moral support and show them they are not alone!
Over to Sin Yan...
Yeah theen mun's right, we hope to give them more strength to persevere on by making this little sacrifice. "Wah, you are so brave." Many have said this to me after i shaved my hair. Thank you all for the encouragement (: If a normal person like me deserves 10 claps for this, i believe the cancer patients deserve a round of applause. To them, to lose their crown is a loss of pride but that's not all to the illness. It unfolds like a time bomb. Time seems to be running out and anxiety builds up. They struggle emotionally to outlast every minute while their breath weakens.
When deadlines draw near, we panick and fear. The cancer patients fear too but it's a different kind of fear. They fear the end of time, a time of no return. That is true bravery. They grieve, accept and eventually take it in their stride.
You can do your part too! Apart from moral support, they really do need monetary support for the long and gruelling fight against cancer. Donate from the bottom of your heart as you realise the ordeal every cancer patient has to face. You can go to http://www.ccf.org.sg/hfh/webApp/listShavees.php and find our names "Chong Theen Mun" or "Lee Sin Yan" and click "Online Pledge". Any amount is appreciated. ^_^ Thank you!
Not all can or may wish to donate but there's definately a message that all can take back. Looking at the cancer patients, you can see that life is not as pleasant for everyone. Know that you are the more fortunate ones and cherish your life. Learn from the patients and persevere when things don't seem too good. At the end of the day, i believe you will grow to be a stronger person (: *The wind that goes opposite of you makes you fly higher. Jia you everyone! =>
cheers,
tm, sy
