Rice Donations to the less fortunate
This coming lunar new year, ULC will be extending a helping hand for a good cause by pledging towards a RICE donation project which will benefit 17,866 needy beneficiaries across Singapore. Project R.I.C.E 2013 is an annual nationwide community service project helmed by SMU Red Cross since 2009 and involves hundreds of Red Cross Youth volunteers in a nation-wide rice collection event. This year, they aim to collect 37,000kg of rice over the next few weeks, to ensure that the beneficiaries will have enough rice for their CNY reunion dinners.
Rice is a staple which we may often take for granted. Yet to many of these beneficiaries, it means more than just a meal. Receiving the rice donations brings love and warmth to them during the festive period so that they can actually have enough to enjoy a simple reunion dinner with their families.
NUS ULC has set a target to raise and donate 1.5 tonnes of rice, and as of 18/1/2013, we are at 1.06 tonnes. If you are keen to make a rice donation, kindly drop Pearlyn an email at pearlyn.yapse@gmail.com to find out how you can do so.
**********************
This initiative by ULC aims to garner as much support as possible from our network of alumni + current members to help the less fortunate in Singapore during this festive season. All rice donations pledged will be donated to the organisers of Project R.I.C.E 2013 with the hopes of bringing a smile to the faces of more than 17,000 beneficiaries.
Thank you so much for your generosity and support. :D

Serenity, peaceful and calm at the pool
The monster call exam is out to battle with you all, as many hide in the smelly cave preparing for the fight...
The pool is very empty and quiet without you all...................
Do remember that your studies come first, that why you are here .... do bury yourself in your books for the next 3 to 4 weeks....
However, if you feel stressful and down after those long hours of staring at your books, cold and shivering all over at the smelly cave.... do come down to our holy water to relieve and let go.
(let go of toxic waste must go to the toilets ah!!)
If you want to listen to the long, sharp whistle sounds then come down to the holy water on Mon or Wed or Fri, alternatively the hot sand is waiting for you at Sentosa on Saturdays.
Wishing the best for your coming battle with the monster......

Roaring Waves of Leman
Just a brief write up about our new explored wave surfing trainings ground at Leman.......
picture showed FS cruising the waves from 200m away from shoreline...............
FS enjoying every moment that she had, riding the waves... long stretch shallow water and wide beaches....
We slept at this new wonderful resort somewhere in Leman...
With our usual 6 meals per days ....
At this cooling hut operated by ST, our generous tour operator...
We practice running in shallow water for the first day....
Below picture show how a tiger/cat leaped into the water from shallow to deep water...... he burned his finger whilst trying to fire others from behind..... ouch! ouch! ouch!!!!!
We also do our usual surfboard and ski paddling...
Our body boards with fins proved to be very popular with the newbie...
also, rescues using Perry Rescue lines.... learning this rescue skills will be useful when we go up to Taiwan for swift water rescues....
Leman has beautiful wide sand area for beach flag and sprint... beri beri wide and long...
End of the day, all have a wonderful time learning new skills in lifesaving, challenging the waves under the watchful eyes and care from all the seniors....
As we gathered for group pictures.... the South China Sea raise it 'voices' again with huge continuous waves from 300m and challenge us to ride on her.....but we have to go as our transport is waiting for us..............next year folks...
On our way back, we stop at this traditional copi tiam and some have big paus...huge big paus
What a wonderful moment for all our NUS Lifesaving people to gather and have a wonderful time learning new skills and exchanging ideals for their future and hope for lifesaving in NUS and Singapore.....
